I’ve been staring at my notebook for the past 20 minutes and all I’ve written down is today’s date on the upper right corner like a damn fourth-grader hoping to at least get ten points on his essay quiz for getting his name right.
I had an idea for an article but before I could even find my creative flow by putting pen to paper, I’m stuck at the starting line trying to define this future masterpiece by coming up with a title first. As I wait for inspiration, thirty-different questions begin to float to the top of my consciousness. Each one in succession forcing me deeper and deeper into a state of creative paralysis.
- What’re you going to call it?
- Why are you writing this?
- What’s your main point?
- Is it going to be any good?
- Who’s this for?
- What’s my voice?
- What’s my writing style going to be?
- But seriously though, what’s a good title for this?
The problem with questions like these -
is that I typically don’t find the answer till I’m halfway finished writing.
